Dobro, melodic style.
Adapted from a tab by Steve Carr.

Thanks for posting this, Ulrich. I'll have to see what I can steal from it! Most of the time I just play backup on fiddle tunes, but this is one where I'll dare to take a break after our 13 yr old fiddle player. I let her define the melody and do a banjo style roll in G6 tuning with the top D left open on the C and Am chords. At the speed she likes to play it, my chances of playing your arrangement are probably slim to none.

Here is the Flux's break from "pace yourself" P. T. Gazell's album just for educational purposes:

Here is Tony Rice doing Billy in the Low Ground. Jerry's break starts at 1:33.

If this is the same track from "California Autumn", the break is by Mike Auldridge to my ears.

California Autumn, Rebel Records CD-1546 features both Mike Auldridge and Jerry Douglas on dobro. Jerry is credited with cuts 4 and 6 which are Billy in the Low Ground and Good Woman's Love. IMHO Jerry's style is similar to Mikes's at this point in his career.
