B String lower a whole tone - question....

I see that a number of players are using a whole tone lower on their 5th (B) string on their E9th tuning,

Is this change best effected on a knee lever that does nothing else (a knee lever that is solely dedicated to this change) - or can it be effectively used on the same lever that drops your 5th & 10th string a half-tone? Another words, can you use a feel-stop on the 5th string to go from your B to a Bb and then down to the A?

Are there musical or mechanical advantages/disadvantages in doing it one way or the other (other than the obvious need to install separate knee levers to do it separately)?

Any insight appreciated.

Tommy White lowers both B's on a knee lever and has a half-stop on the 6th string to get the Bb.

I lower both B's to A on pedal 4 and use it with and w/o G#>F# lower. But I'm going to add Tommy White's changes to my 12 string I have on order.

A real modern change, IMO.

Hey, my old Michigan buddies.

Tommy White's usage of 'splitting the Franklin Pedal' has convinced me to split it myself. I plan to do like Drew and lower 5 and 10 (9 in my case) on a pedal (it's the 0 pedal to the left of the A pedal). That pedal currently has the Franklin changes on it. I already lower G#s to G on a knee lever so I'll just tune them to F# and split with the B pedal. That way I can have G# to G and F# AND B to A without really losing anything (or having to add a lever).

Musically logical. I like that.

Another thing that I like about Tommy White's B lowers is that one sets up a half-stop for the other like the 2nd and 9th strings do.
