Hey Guys and Gals I could use some help.
I have a Nova System I'd like to use with a amp that doesn't have an effects loop.
When I hook it up it works fine but my volume pedal has no effect on the volume.
I'm running from my volume pedal to the drive input because when I used the line input it distorts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dale

Dale,

are you running from Guitar - Volume Pedal - TC (Drive Input) - Amp Input?

Dale,
I have a Nova system. The biggest hurdle to getting a good sound from my pedal steel was to tame the levels. There are many places to do this which complicates the issue. If you don't have a manual, download the manual pdf from tc electronics. There is not a single place to set the levels but a place to start is the LEVELS menu. I spent quite a bit of time with the manual before I got the clean sound as a starting point. Once you have your clean sound with the volume pedal fully on, you can back off your volume pedal and increase levels until what comes out of your amp is the intended volume. I am sorry that there is no single "change this" solution. The NOVA system is capable of producing wonderful sounds but you as the artist have to understand how to program it.

Brad's question is important. Your volume pedal should be inline with its output going into the drive input. You can use a volume pedal as an expression pedal to control volume but that requires the appropriate cable going from the volume pedal to the pedal input. In that case the guitar output goes directly into the drive input and the volume pedal is programmed appropriately. I have tried both ways and both work.

Yes Guys I'm going from the volume pedal output into the drive input and then out of the output to the amp. I have worked on the levels but I don't understand why my volume pedal will not increase or decrease the volume. It just stays a constant volume which makes no sense to me.
Thanks

Dale, Do you have the compressor/limiter turned on? It's such an obvious place to look. From the manual, page 27:
"Ratio
Range: Off, 1.12:1 to Infinite:1
This parameter determines how hard the signal is compressed.Example: With a Ratio setting of 2:1, an input signal with 4 dB above threshold is reduced to only 2 dB on the output. The “infinite” setting gives you a limiter function."

Dale,
Here is the point to try basic troubleshooting procedures (I spent 40 years in data processing). Start by checking the volume pedal. Plug the guitar into the volume pedal and the volume pedal directly into the amp. If everything works, unplug the volume pedal from the amp and plug it into the drive input of the NOVA. plug the output of the nova into the amp and check it again. Does it work? Test over. If it still does not work, I'm not sure what the next step would be.
