Who plays one? How do they compare with other guitars that you've played? I've heard a lot of good things about them thus far. However, I wanna' hear from the guys out there that have really road tested one of these babies.

But I bought one to deliver to an overseas buddy about 6 years ago, and had a chance to pick on it.
To sum it up, I liked it. Light, but stayed in tune and had a good tone.
But thats just me.

| i've only been playing a year and a half,,but i,ve had a derby an old shobud and now have a fessenden and a gfi ultra sd10,,i keep trading other guitars,,but i will keep my gfi,,do i think it sounds as good as the derby? not through a nashville 400,,but it does sound vrrry nice through my old ltd,,i play a little opry type gig some weekends,,and started with a band doing 5 sets fri and sat,2 or three times a month,,,i adjusted it so it fits me,,bottom line i would buy another one from bobby seymore if it got run over by a train,,,, |

Hey Robbie. I had a chance to spend some time with a GFI Ultra last month and was very very impressed with the guitar. Great tone and sustain. It was a keyless model and weighed about half as much as our beloved MSA's. I did not notice any cabinet drop and the instrument was relatively stable for its lightness... Being used used to MSA's, every other guitar seems a bit "squirrelly", but this was manageble.
If I had a road gig, I would seriously consider a GFI. |

Hey guys, Thanks for your input. Jerry, thanks for the link. VERY informative. How do these guitars compare to a Carter? The way they're described they almost sound like the same guitar! Light weight, easy to maintain, good to great tone....

One other thing to consider outside of the guitar, is the company you deal with.. Gene and his staff are the best in the world to deal with, alway kind and considerate to the needs of the players, The bottom line it it is the finest insterment made on the market for tone, tuning,weight,andservice after the sale... Again it is the the insterment i trust to put food on my table!
I just played a 10 hour session Yesterday after bringing it in from sub zero weather..
I give it a quick tuning, ad played it the intire 10 hrs without needing to touch the keys, and the tone into the console was unbeleavable....

My GFI is a standard model, with 8 pedals and seven knees, keyless. When the GFI was
purchased (used) I had two other steels, an
MSA and a Sierra. I was so impressed with the GFI that the other guitars were sold, there were never played. In my mind the key word for the GFI is "value". Your able to get a fine musical instrument for reasonable price. |

Im running the GFI 2 pickups, They are about the best tone i have found, next to any pickup out there! They have great string separation,and smooth as silk!!
My cold hard Steel Cd was recorded direct to the mixing console. So that will tell you how good the tone is on the GFI pickups.

I have a MCI single and a EMCI double and the E-66 is my favorite PU for those, I see the GFI as a similar guitar and if I read their info right the two GFI pu's are sort of on either side of a E-66 with the I being brighter and the II being a little fuller. I remember a comment Mike Cass said about the GFI he is now playing being a little thick sounding compared to the one he tried out and he is an old EMCI E-66 guy. |
