Hi Guys. I turned my amp (Peavey 112) on today and heard ungodly whining sounds mingled with sporadic static. Any thoughts please?

Try bumping it with your fist on top pretty hard couple times while its on and see if that makes a difference. If it does, it may be just a loose connection. Peaveys do that at times. If that doesn't help, it's time for a trip to the shop, well, may be anyway. _________________ Henry Matthews

Or a cable from preamp out to power amp in? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I call that "Peavy Disease". I played my beloved Vegas 400 for many years, and it'd do that every once in a while. A good whack on top of the amp always did the trick. I'm using a Peavy Classic 30 these days (like a 30 Watt version of a Deluxe Reverb and a whole lot lighter), since I'm mostly playing non-pedal steel. I've played pedal steel gigs with it. It, too, suffers from Peavy disease. _________________ Jack Aldrich

So if it whines, hit it. Does this apply to people also? _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Thanks much Guys. The hitting thing apparently did the trick.
Ian... That's worth a try too...

When mine acts up, I give it a good whack and it stops. The guys in the band give me a puzzled look and I just say, "I do repairs." _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

You must be a record producer from South Carolina. I'm sure we've met.
