I don't have a picture yet because the guitar's still at the current owner's house but I needed some information.
It's an old ShoBud D-10, birdseye maple sort of a medium brown color. It's kinda dirty but it's in pretty decent shape as far as I can tell...
I've checked the linkage and pedal action, pickups and all and it plays pretty easy and sounds good. I don't know the model but it has those brass pieces with the little finger adjuster on the ends of them on all the pulling rods and the Allen wrench adjustment(s) at the end plate...
Are those hard to keep in tune? I've never had a ShoBud with those on it before, my old S/B S-12 had a double raise/single lower all pull changer with the nylon hex adjusters...
The good part is he's only charging me $800 for it. The guy is over ninety years old and can't play anymore. He's a neighbor of mine and I asked him about buying it a few years ago and he declined but I saw him in the 7-ll this morning and he asked me if I was still interested and I said yes. He told me that Billy Cooper's music had offered him $800 for it and he said I could have it for $700 because we were friends. I told him if they'd offered him the $800 then I'd give him that and we shook hand so I'll be picking it up this afternoon...
Opinions? I assume that's a very good price but I don't know about that particular changer.. What do you guys think of them....JH in Va.

I think that's a GREAT DEAL. 
It could probably use cleaning, since it's 40+ years old. But if it plays well now, I wouldn't bother.

I'd read it as barrel-tuned. It's worth at least double what you're paying, but it might take a cleaning to get there.

Does it have a lever on the back edge by the tuners? How many pedals and knee levers? Could be a Crossover model. They are a bit harder to deal with, but at that price, still worth it, I think. Others might disagree.

The proper word is SCORE, if it is.

| Fingertips don't have Allen wrench holes. Sounds like the two hole puller system with the brass barrels. One of my pro 2's had that. |

Yes with that description of the mechanics and the birdseye maple brown color D-10.

Old Crossover.
Professional

So a picture would tell all. But even if it is the highly undesirable "CrossOver"; 800.00 is well worth a great deal.

I brought it home this afternoon and it says on the front "Pro II"... It's not a fingertip though, it's a rack & barrel system. I didn't realize just how dirty the thing was but it's worth the effort of cleaning it up.... Also, it's not a crossover. It has 8 of the old wide floor pedals and 4 knee levers. Everything works fairly easily too which is good. Is it advisable to put some oil on the brass barrels where the adjustment nut is or should I leave them alone? My old ShoBud from days gone by had the double raise single lower changer with the nylon tuning nuts. The C6th neck has a lot of wear on the fingerboard so I'll probably have to replace that... It'll be a few days but when I get it all cleaned up I'll post some pictures. Approximately what year(s) would this be. My old 'bud was a '77 so I know it's older than that!...JH in Va.

OK, so you paid 800 for a guitar worth almost three times that.
If it's Pro 2 it probably doesn't have racks, but the early form of bellcrank we call "two hole pullers."
You can take the barrels apart to clean them, but NEVER oil them.
It's not hard to remove the fingers to clean them if they need it.

| Jerry, if you end up replacing the C6 fretboard and its one of the tin ones, let me know. If you can get it off of the guitar without damaging it I would be interested. I bought a replacement for my Sho Bud Professional and it looks great but I never used it because its too "new" looking and would be too much of a contrast with my E9 neck fretboard, which I don't want to replace. I would be interested in trading if you are wanting a new fretboard. I damaged mine using some GHS cleaner that was evidently a little more toxic than I thought it would be. From what I know, and I could be wrong, the first run of the Pro 11's are the coolest Sho Bud's around. My Professional sounds great but it can be a bit noisy mechanically. |

Here's some shots I took of the guitar this morning. It's still pretty dirty as I haven't had a chance to clean it up yet or lube it. The copedant seems to be a fairly standard ShoBud set up as far as I can tell... I might be taking it up to Billy Cooper's to get it gone through next week... Here's the photos........JH in Va.

That is one of the best sounding Sho-Buds ever made. A breeze to set up, stays in tune for years and will never let you down. Give him his $800 but take out to lunch once a week til he passes. That would still be a great price.

My steel looks really similar to yours, mine says The Pro II Custom and I was informed here on the forum mine was a 1976, I don't have Allen head tuners or those 2 switches under the E9 neck but the color is almost identical except underneath. Mine just looks like unfinished wood and is way dirtier than yours, I'm kinda afraid to touch it cause it sounds great and really stays in tune, I'm afraid I'll mess up its mojo! Anyway I love everything about my Bud . By the way does your neighbor have any more guitars, I have some money and I'm also a good gutter cleaner.
