| Last nite I watched the Show. It was a good show and certainly not country with many guests performing. I was surprised when Bob Dylan did a number and when they panned the band there was a steel player. I could barely hear him and they didn't give him a lot of camera time but he did get a couple of shots. It looked like a single neck but not sure although I could see 3 pedals. I have not heard Dylan in years and did not know he used steel. |

I didn't see the whole show, but I saw that spot too. I don't know who the player was, but it was good to see a pedal steel up there.
Dylan used steel sometimes. Remember Lay Lady Lay.
Tony Bennett is such a treasure. It's all about the song with him. Never have I heard any artist give such praise and the lion's share of the credit to the song writers like Tony does.
Still belting them out strong at 90. God Bless Tony Bennett. |

I really enjoyed watching the show too. And, to my ears (and sound system), I thought the steel was very prominent in Dylan's tune, actually. Odd that we had different perceptions of that...

I agree Jim, I could hear the steel and guitar just fine, in fact I thought the whole mix wasw excellent. The orchestra was IMO superb, as were the guest performers and Tony sounded great. I'm pretty sure the psg was a GFI,whoever was playing it did a killer job of playing just the right chord at the perfect time.As Jerry said ,"Tony Bennett is a treasure".  Diana Krall was sublime as always. |

Two Sundays ago, I saw Tony Bennett with his quartet at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. A large and classic hall from the early 20th century that was totally sold out, tickets going from $90 to $250.
Tony was in fantastic voice, spry and running around the stage for 2 hours, and often singing a verse/chorus to many of his tunes because of the sheer number of his classic performances of Great American Songbook songs is staggering.
Of note was his generosity of praise to his musicians and exhorting the audience to show their appreciation as well. The man is pure class.

| The TV I was watching has to be in the top 10 of the worst sounding TVs ever made. I have a surround system for it but it was not on at the time. Because of this I could barely hear the steel. The show was excellant and having a steel on it was even better. |

This must be a recent change if Bucky Baxter is back in the lineup. Bucky played with Bob a bunch of years ago, but for the past 10 or so years on "The Never Ending Tour" it had been Donny Herron on pedal steel along with some guitar, fiddle, and mandolin.

A friend of mine recently became a volunteer at the nearby Luther Burbank Center For the Performing Arts in Santa Rosa. It's a nice mid size venue (about 1800 capacity) that had been remodeled several years ago.
With the volunteer gig you put on a white dress shirt and black slacks and vest, do ushering, ticket taking, etc. And after several volunteer gigs you get free tix to a show where you can sit down and be a member of the audience.
Tony Bennett came through a couple weeks ago and hindsight being 20/20 I wish I would have already signed up for the volunteer bit which I am considering doing in the future. My friend was an usher at the concert and she said after seating people she got to see a good portion of the show and he was fantastic.
Tony doesn't work cheap - I think the lowest priced seats in the back were going for about 90 bucks and it went up from there, so being a volunteer is about the only way I could justify being there.

Sounded more like Donny Herron to me. Great multi-instrumentalist but more of an 'atmospheric' style steel player. I think Bucky Baxter usually plays a D-10 and I've seen Don Herron playing a S-10 Emmons. Herron's style works well with Dylan IMHO.

I was stunned at Tony 's impeccable pitch and ability at 90.
I was also stunned at Kevin Spacey ' performance. I had no idea he could sing.

Jim,I think Spacey's Bobby Darren movie is"Beyond the Sea.He was touring with a big band when that movie came out...Kevin Spacey can sing!
