Paul,You would need to be able to make your own parts. They are hard to find. A few here & there now and then. Plus I think all these odd and ends parts are overpriced. You could take the money it would take just to buy them and buy you a nice Single 10 guitar ready to play. Just my thoughts, J.R.

I shouldn't stick my face in here but I will anyway..... 
My hobby is finding old lap steels and rebuilding them.
Without exception they always cost me more in parts and time than their monetary worth.
Fortunately with a lap steel the money involved is not all that much and it is my way to relax.
I can't imagine the difficulty in locating all the mechanics and misc. parts needed to bring that guitar to life let alone the cost involved.
Like I said, I'm not a pedal steel guy but boy that looks like a lot of work and money.
On the other hand wouldn't it be nice if someone took the time and effort to bring it up to playing standards?
I work on the premise that I just saved an instrument from the trash heap. It's kind of rewarding.

It might almost be worth it if they wanted much less for it...but they want $600. For $50 or $100 it might be worth it just to only swap the fluted endplates out on a regular SuperPro.

I too have rebuilt my share of lap steels, and I feel your pain, Larry. Even though I tend to operate on the "buy high, sell low" principle, I feel a great satisfaction in bringing these old relics back to life. |

If it really is a Super Pro II it is kind of a rare bird. I've never seen a picture of one and don't know anything about them other than what I've read here, which is that only a handful were built, perhaps 7, kind of prototypes based on a Duane Marrs re-design. It makes me curious, but even if it is one of those rare 7 or so guitars, $600 is pretty steep without any of the other parts included.
As Michael said, that seller has a lot of psg parts for sale, all are listed as "Sho-Bud" parts, some are, many are not, many are way overpriced (like $49 for 1 piece of Sho-Bud style diamond inlay?). |
