Anyone know how hard it is to replace chips in the NV 112? Is there a video out there somewhere?
Thanks
Dale

As long as you have one that has the IC chip sockets, not too much to undertake.

The chassis has to be removed to access the top of the preamp board, where the chips are.

Ken includes a diagram with the chips. Not the orientation of the chips. There will either be a "dot" (indentation) for Pin 1 or a "U" shaped indentation on the pin 1 end of the chips. The new ones have to go in with the same pin 1 orientation as the originals.

The chips should be removed, CAREFULLY, by sliding something under the chip to loosen it from the socket. Remove it and insert the new one, observing pin 1 and ensuring all the pins on new chip are inserted correctly into the socket.

If you are not comfortable doing this, take the kit and amp to a "qualified" amp tech and have them install the new (5) chips.

Thanks Per, always good to know something I've done or posted was of help. Don't forget Ken Fox, I still think he offers the kits which include an install instruction sheet.

Thanks for helping out there, Dick. I should have done a video in these amos years ago! Since my divorce I had shut down the shop at the end of 2012. No place to work and just to scattered to do much other than the chip sales

I finally have a small place to work again and am doing a select few repairs on vintage gear now and then. Good to get my head wrapped
around some diagnostic work again.

I am thinking about doing a few videos on chip installs and other things in the very near future. Profex 2, N-400, N-112 and more. Also would be fun to do a how to do cleaning for loop jacks and readjusting/realignment of Switchcraft jacks with contacts. Those jacks cause a host of issues on the amp inputs as well as inputs for the loops( power amp in, pre eq on, etc)

Great! I'm pretty sure that once I see what a piece of cake it is to do, I'll be sending you my order. Smile
