Is there a way to identify whether a George L's installed pickup is a 10-1 or an SS-10? They both measure the same DC resistance [19.5KΩ] and I see no identifying marks or stampings on the body of either in the photos. |

Jerry, the SS-10 has it stenciled on the bottom of the pickup. Other than that there is no way to differentiate.

Thanks David. I was afraid of that. Can you offer any input on the sonic differences between the two? |

There are no markings on a 10-1. |

Jerry,
The primary difference I've found between the two are the 10-1 is a bit dark and the SS-10 has more bite and clarity. Both are wound to the same ohms but they used stainless steel blades on the SS-10 and iron on the 10-1. I find the SS-10 to be the clarity and bite of the E-66 but with better mids and lows. The SS-10 is my favorite George L's pickup.
