How much recording / playing did Joaquin do with T Texas Tyler ? I have a " Joaquin Murphey Collection " tape with him backing Tyler on " I've Heard That Story Before " and " Smile When you Speak of Texas ". Are these the only tunes he cut with Tyler ? |

Altho' I played several times for T.Texas Tyler way back when....and during the height of his glory days...I must say that I never once heard J.Murphy on any of his stuff. I'd tend to believe you might have a rarey there. |

there are no more thn 3 or 4 tex tyler recordings with joaquin--all on the 4 star label out of LA. some from 78 RPM and some on 4 star transcriptions intended for radio play rather than ordinary retail sale.
my files are inaccessible right now or i could tell you the titles--i think one of them may be "you turned a good man down".
as jody said, it is mostly boggs with tex. i think curly cochran may be on a few of them. they are all wonderful recordings from the heyday of western swing--other guys on the sessions with tex were don decker, jimmy pruitt, jimmy wyble, vic davis, etc. tyler always had a crack band. there are a couple of tyler cds out there that include this material. needless to say, not on USA labels.

Anyone know if it was Noel on "Bummin' Around"? The steel on this song (both the solo and the backup) really floors me. |
