I'm flattered to have received some very nice, unsolicited feedback from monster jazz guitarist, Robert Conti, about my album, "Pedal Steel Jazz" (www.cdbaby.com/jimcohen2). He went on to say, "Your CD has taken up permanent residence in my car CD player. In fact, during a recent trip over to LA, a good friend (a major name player) decided to hop a ride with me over to LA. I won't mention his name, but by the time we reached LA, he said to me: "Conti, now you managed to get me hooked on this sound!"
Thank you, Robert!

A hearty congratulations Jim! I believe Kinky Friedman said, "If I can reach just one person....."
Needless to say, you've reached many with your pedal steel jazz chops, but Robert Conti....he'd be the "one!" _________________ Assorted gear and a set of hands...

It's sort of like getting knighted, Jimbeaux. Being praised by a "monster" means you have now achieved "monster" status in your own right! Congratulations...well deserved. |

I agree, Jeff - Jim is Cohen to be a player to watch out for! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

I think that's supposed to be a compliment but the grammar is so peculiarly English that I'm not quite sure... ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Jeff and I idle our time away looking for puns on any subject; I thought this a worthy one.
But I am impressed that you got a good review from such a fine player.... _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

Jim, that is a nice compliment from such a great player, and well deserved I might add. I bet he would feel that way about your 6 string guitar playing as well ! Jim, How can you top that kind of compliment? Conti is a superb and highly respected player and smooth as silk. You have caught the ear of the jazz world. I am more than impressed. Please continue with your efforts to get the pedal steel recognized in jazz music. |

I noticed Johnny Smith's name mentioned in the quote. His son David Smith was at my show and dance Friday night. He brought in the latest book about Johnny Smith that he (David) signed for my guitar player, K.O. Bowen. I intend to borrow it after a while and read up on Mr Smith. He had a music Store here in Colorado Springs for many years and I used to visit on my lunch hour as it was near the work place. I always loved to drool over all the beautiful Gibson guitars hanging on the wall that I could not afford. Should have taken out a loan and bought several. My retirement would be well funded now. I did buy a Shure Vocal Master monitor speaker that is within arm's length right now.
Johnny told me one time that an event that he played with Maurice Anderson was one of the best events he ever played. He asked me if I knew him, I was currently playing an MSA, so the answer was yes.
Jim Cohen is a great player and a real nice fellow also.
Good luck with the CD.

Thank you all for the nice words. Much appreciated.
Buck, I look forward to seeing and hearing you play in two weeks. Wish I could come a day earlier for your seminar but I'm afraid I can't make it.
George, thanks for sharing that great story about Johnny Smith. Wonder if David Wright or someone else has heard about the Reece/Johnny gig from Reece's recollection of the story?
In any case, thank you all once again. _________________ www.JimCohen.com
