Might pick this one up. Only info I know is, the tuners and electronics, etc all work well and it comes with the original case.
Any idea of the year? Value? Scale? Tone?
Any general, overall opinions on these?
Thanks in advance!

It's a model 1010 "Special 8". Looks like it's from the early-mid '50s; the serial can be dated here. The scale is a shade under 23". |

Hey Jim,
Here's one that gives you an asking price point. Don't know what they actually sell for.

Here's another one that's no longer available, don't know if it sold or not:

There are six-string Nationals on ebay every week but you don't see many single neck eight stringers. Most six string New Yorker's (nothing says deco like a Chrysler building New Yorker) seem to go for $350-$600 with certain year models being more desirable and seven-string models worth a bit more than that. I gave $600 in trade for my National D8 console with no case or legs, which was probably at least $100 too much but I had some wiggle room on the guitar I was selling and I like the National a lot. From posts on the forum; the pickups are apparently very hard to repair without damaging the windings because of the way they were assembled.
Freddie Roulette plays an eight string single neck National so you might have to start smoking a pipe. |
