Topic: Removing Evans grill cloth...someones had to have done this? |

I have a Evans SE200 amp. with the original Eminence Delta 15" speaker that I would like to replace with a Sica 15" neo speaker. The Delta is a front load speaker. How do I remove the grill cloth?
It appears the grill cloth is held in place by the round piping along the edges of the amp, but I am not sure. This is a pre-velcor mounting. I don't want to proceed without knowing what I'm getting into.

| The GRIll cloth is probably fastened with Velcro, like the older Evans amp, S. Try to prize the grill at the top or bottom with a screwdriver. Hope this help's, I am not sure a bout this, but my Evans amp does have Velcro holding the grill in cabinet. Willie Sims. |

I don't know about that model of Evans.
My old 1985 Evans FET-500LV has white piping around both sides and the bottom of the grill cloth. There is no piping across the top, under the knobs. When I changed out speakers, I used a wide blade screwdriver and pried off the front grill frame starting at the top. It was held on by Velcro.

Thanks "all" for the responses.
My Evans is a 1999 SE version. I used a stiff putty knife and was able to hear the Velcro responding..."popping" sound. Glad I didn't try to remove the piping...would of had a real mess  |

| Harbor Freight sells a little kit of tools that have a hooked pry pick (for lack of a better term) along with a straight pick and a few other tools for less tha 5 bucks. The hooked pry pick is nice for sliding in back of a grill then pulling out the baffle board when it's held by Velcro. |

| I had an Evans JE200 and the grill cloth panel comes off as a separate piece. Mine was held by Velcro. |

| Anytime I find it necessary to remove the grill panel on any amp to gain access to a front loaded speaker, before reinstalling the panel I staple a strip of 2" wide webbing material to the bottom section of the wood frame to form a loop just large enough to hook my finger into. It is barely noticeable and makes any future grill removal a breeze. |
