Hello all - I got an Emmons gs-10 (student model 3x1) almost a year ago. It's a lovely guitar with a great sound, but it needs a little help. The C lever (Raise B->C#, E->F#) binds against the E->Eb knee lever. I've found 2 options:
1. Tune C pedal well, and get no function from knee lever, or
2. Loosen the spring on the E->F# raise rod, and get function from the knee lever. If I do this, I really have to jam the pedal all the way down to the floor and it's still flat.
Anyways I'm confident there is a fix for this. Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated!

Most likely the 4th string E to F# raise on the C pedal is preventing the 4th string lower from working. Raises dominate on a push-pull Emmons. Look at the Tuning a Emmons sticky at top of this section especially Richard Burton post.

Tune the raise first leaving slack. Then tune the lower also leaving slack. I think that's how I used to do when I was using p/p's years ago. Might want to leave lower loose while setting the raise. |

What Billy said. You have to have a gap between your puller and your bell crank on your lowers in the neutral position. |

OK, the trick is to make sure the changer is in tune first, with no regard to the pull or push rods.
You want to loosen the raise and lower rods.
-Tune your F# with your finger, pushing the changer right to left sitting behind the guitar. The changer must bottom out against the hole in body.
-Now let go of the changer, and tune it to open E.
-Now reach under and pull the changer to the right and tune the Eb.
Make sure the string guage is right and you're tuning exactly where you're going to play.
Now, flip the guitar over.
-Set up the lowering rod first so the changer hits the stop.
-Set up the raise rod next to pull the changer to the body. I don't remember needing a compression spring on the 4th raise, only the 5th, but I'm not 100%.You might have to add travel at the pedal stop itself to do this.
That should do it. |

Thanks guys! I tuned the changers with the rods loose, and then I was able to get both the raise and the lower in tune. So much better. I still have to jam the C pedal down further than I'd like, any ideas on how make the E->F# raise a little quicker? |

Place the 4th string wire pull rod hook in one of the 4th string changer finger holes that is closer to the changer axle. |

You might want to adjust the pedal itself, at the floor, up a bit. Don't be afraid to have the pedals up in the air a little.
Just my opinion. |
