She had a long history in country music, and I got to play for her a couple of times many years ago. May she rest in peace.

Jeanie was one of those "you get what you see" people. She was authentic and very kind-hearted. I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time, but got to hang out backstage with my Dad at many shows where she headlined. I got hugs and howdys' every time we met. Such a sweet lady...never heard her speak a harsh word.
May she rest in peace. _________________ Best regards,

This is really sad news. Delores and I went to see Jean Shepard and Les Gilliam the night they were inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee Oklahoma. That was a wonderful experience. The Nashville Reunion Group is getting smaller everyday. R I P Jean _________________ Roger Osbourn

Jean was from the Visalia area in CA. She took Gene Breeden with her to the Opry, I believe about sixty one years ago, or so. Her sister and I attended a funeral a few years ago and had a nice visit with her, as well. |

Jean hosted one of my favorite Grand Ole Opry show episodes on the TNN network in 2001, the year Chet Atkins died. I remember, while hosting the show, she sang the Lefty Frizzell song "Gone Gone Gone" with Dave Robbins playing an Emmons steel and at the end of the show, she performed a slow version of the song, "Secret Love", which was followed by her band paying tribute to Chet Atkins. I understand she spent 60 years on the Grand Ole Opry. Wow, what a legacy for all her fans. Another traditional country music singer has passed on and we will sure miss her. |

Have always like Jeans music. She always told some great stories on those Country Family Reunion tv shows. Its always hard to lose a singer or musician but Jean really left a lot of great music and memories. |

Yes, this is sad. I played some for her as well.
She was as real as it gets. Said she loved a good Emmons.

I didn't catch the show/network, but did watch a very nice, if too short, tribute to Jean this morning. Loved all aspects of her singing and songs, and especially watching her keep time with her hands behind her back. If I had been unable to see her face or hear the sound, that hand motion would have been enough to recognize her. RIP, sweet lady. |

Something a lot of people don't know is that as a senior at Visalia high school she had her own music class. The other two members of that class were Gene Breeden and Norm Hamlet. Norm told me during the summer they would go and play gigs together around California....rj |

I know she was a feisty woman.
On stage she would signal chord changes to us with one hand behind her back
(1s, 4s, 5s, etc...) She knew her stuff and was quick to compliment you when
she got what she wanted.
Most of the shows I did with her were little 1 hour squirts and often you'd see
her for maybe 10 mins before the shows.
She was one of the most "Real" people you'd ever play with.
Had some great stories too she'd tell after the shows.
We did some shows with her, Jack Green and Stonewall Jackson and she would tell Stonewall when to
put on a clean shirt, comb his hair, etc. Kinda like having your Mom with you,
cleaning you up before you went on stage.
I really admired her spunk and will miss her.
