Topic: Height of a PSG Seat |

Could anyone tell me what the normal height of a PSG seat should be. I bought one , off of E-Bay, it is like brand new, but it seems to be to high. The height from the floor to the top of the seat is 21", does this seem right? Thanks.

Mine is exactly 21" from floor to top of seat pad. It will obviously get compressed once I sit my rear end on it. I think its a good height for me.

Jim,
Isn't that a bit like asking "What's the normal length of a pair of trousers?" 
- The answer to both questions is, "It depends on how long your legs are!"
You need to figure out the most comfortable seat height for you, in terms of low enough to reach the pedals easily, and high enough so that your arms and hands are in good ergonomic playing positions.
You might try starting with a seat that's too low, and then stacking books on it to find the right height for you. Check this makeshift seat height carefully several times before you start adjusting your PSG seat: "Measure twice, cut once".
Depending on how long your arms are, you may have to slant your guitar a bit back to front to get your wrists straight to avoid carpal tunnel nerve damage.

After I asked the question, I thought the same thing. Well, it would depend on how long your legs were. Thanks for the help. As you age your recall slows. hahaha

| I set my seat height so my thighs are horizontal by putting slugs in the seat legs, then set the guitar height so my forearms are horizontal. This seems to get me the max. flexibility at my ankle and the least fatigue in my arms. I'm 6'3", so I have to raise every seat and guitar I have. Fortunately, this isn't hard. |

Thanks for the input. I have two seats, the one is about 19" and then the other is 21", and I didn't know if I should cut the leg a little or not. I think maybe now I will try it some more before I do anything.

21" is probably more typical. Top of your thighs more or less parallel to the floor. Before cutting anything to make space between your upper legs and underside of your steel, adjust rear legs of your steel for clearance and comfort with knee levers. The top of the guitar doesn't have to be level.

| 21" is the usual height. Usually, its the steel that needs raised rather than the seat lowered. A 1" or 2" lift kit will probably fix the problem. |
