I think it's missing some pedals though, Blackie Taylor had some of those in his store in SoCal when they were being made and they had 8 on the floor. There were two finishes I believe, the one shown here and a black one. Blackie also had a couple of S-10's of this type if I remember right. They all looked like Fender's on top and ShoBuds underneath....JH

These are great guitars when they are set up and adjusted corectly. You can nail Mooney's old tone on his Fender with this guitar. Bobbe Seymour's "Steel Guitar Favorites" was recorded using one of these guitars if you want to hear what it sounds like. They really twang and get that Fender edgy sound. |

Kevin, exactly! It's a Fender , built by Sho-Bud in 1976. There were 4400 hundred built, this includes singles, doubles and the "student" modles.
I have given the complete history of this series in full on this forum in the past.
Great guitars but the tuning heads were very bad.

4400 is alot of guitars. You hardly ever see them offered for sale used. I wonder where the heck they all are? They are rarer tan ZB's and ZB's are pretty rare. [This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 18 January 2005 at 10:34 AM.] |

I had one of those Fender/Sho-Buds. I always liked the way it played. . . .nice & smooth, but it sounded like a old Fender Stringmaster. Very thin & tenny! Definately not a warm commercial sound like my Emmons.

Jim: Those are the standard Fender fretboards, the same as used on all their pedal guitars (except the PS-210). [This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 18 January 2005 at 04:24 PM.] |

Nick,
Is it an optical illusion, or did that guitar actually have that much swag in the middle? It looks quite bowed to me. Just curious.

Must be something with the photo. It looks like the whole porch including the bannister behind the steel is bend too.

True Klaus, it does look like that. However, notice the pedal bar...it looks straight as an arrow.
Crowbear, I'm glad you noticed it too. I thought maybe it was just my failing eyesight!

I'll never understand why people put steel guitars face down on a hard floor. Then they take a picture of it! Amazing. |
