Finally got this beast finished and have a couple stitches in my finger to show for it. Pickup is Rick Aiello 'Potbelly' - scale is 22.5. Not sure whether to go with C6th or A6th - maybe A6th because it would make more sense changing over from pedals.

Congratulations on the new guitar. How does it sound with that potbelly pickup? _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Nice job on your steel. What kind of wood did you use?
That Aiello pup ought to really sing. |

Brad, it sounds pretty good if you back the tone off - I'm going to have to change caps - the one I used is from a Chinese Tele and it can get a little screechy. The pickup is great, though.
Stephen, the wood is a chunk of 8/4 mahogany that I had left over from building a Tele body and a couple necks. _________________ 2013 Brook Torridge, 2014 Martin 000-18, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, Quilter 101R head, understanding wife of 45 years. What value pots did you use? If it starts out a bit harsh, you might think about testing out a lower value volume pot too. _________________ Some misc pics of my hand crafted steels

Tom, I'think the pots are 250k but they're Chinese and not marked, ditto the cap. I used mini pots to fit the holes but may upgrade to Bournes or something else on the small side. I'm going to replace the cap with a .033 and see what happens.
Thanks for the kind words - you set the bar pretty high. Not sure I'm going to use mahogany again - I'm normally a curly/quilted maple freak but had this laying around. _________________ 2013 Brook Torridge, 2014 Martin 000-18, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, Quilter 101R head, understanding wife of 45 years.
