just got the Bear Family's 2008 Texas Troubadours compilation Almost To Tulsa: The Instrumentals and this one was new to me. recorded May 28, 1961 with Leon Rhodes, Jack Drake, Jan Kurtis, and Howard "Johnny" Johnson plus Pig Robbins and Grady Martin. check it out:

Danny Boy 1961

in addition, this collection contains Buddy's 1959 recordings of Greensleeves and Highland Swing! these were done on the same session as his Four-Wheel Drive/Blue Wind single. had no idea these existed either... did you? enjoy:

Greensleeves 1959
Highland Swing 1959

there's also a Speedy West tune called This Ain't the Blues recorded March 30, 1960 with Buddy on lead guitar(!) and Bobby Garrett on steel:

This Ain't the Blues

and here's Rose City Chimes from the Midnight Jamboree LP without any of the overdubbed crowd noise or ET's intro/outro. it says Hank Garland plays 2nd lead guitar in addition to Leon Rhodes, which is news to me. not sure which part Hank plays:

Rose City Chimes

some great photos featured in the booklet. I also never knew Jack was Pete Drake's brother

Terrific post - haven't seen many of these photos - thanks, scott!

FWIW, here's some tablature of Speedy's version of "This Ain't The Blues" and musings on "Rose City Chimes," which is so cool without the fake audience.

Damir, I sure don't know where you find all these beautiful guitars to sell. Still waiting on my Encore, then I'll have a couple. Then again I may just keep them. hahaha. Hope to meet you some time.
