Gidget Goes Hawaiian

I've been watching this 1961 movie , and It has a ton of great steel guitar , and a few scenes with a live band featuring Steel Guitar.

Does any one know the Steel Player's name or history?

Wow, it's on a local station here in the Bay Area as I type. Dang, I think I missed the steel guitar scene.

I'm fairly certain the steeler was Bob Nichols.

My girls are watching this movie, right now. I heard a steel guitar so I took a look, to see only a ukelele and guitar player in the scene. That made me google it. The first result was Mr. Piburn's post from minutes earlier. What a crazy coincidence. The second was a list of steel players in Hollywood movies. That's where I saw Joe Custino listed as the player in Gidget Goes Hawaiian.

According to The Hawaiian Steel Guitar and Its Great Hawaiian Musicians, edited by Lorene Ruymar, the steel player was Joe Custino.

It's on Youtube, with a Duane Eddy guitar track.

Looks to be Joe Custino behind a Magnatone.
