On C6 neck number 5 pedal raises the G to G#, so do you tune down to D from G and use a larger string or up to D with smaller string. Were would you retune the stop, a half step or whole? Would like to try this just need more specifics. Thanks for any help on this. Donald |

When Bud Charleton started doing this in 78 he had me do it too, and I used a .015" string and slacked off the half step change on the 5th pedal.
He hadn't at that time found a use for it.
I've had it that way since.
The replacement voicing being the 7th pedal down five frets up playing the 2345 strings always seemed easy enough to hit.
I think you'll find that's the norm, but I've never asked here.

Donald, if I understand your question correctly, I use a "D" first string and it is a .017 string tuned one step lower than the second string like the "E" pitch of the second string tuned down one whole tone to "D". Is that what you were asking for?
Sorry Eric, I was typing while you were.

Jerry, That is what I was asking for, and if I tune the first string down to D, then what should I change the stop on that string, since it is set up with the 5th pedal. Also what advantages does this give you over having the first string up to G? Thanks for any and all help. Trying to absorb all I can, I'm a 35 yr guitar player, getting into steel for the last 6-8 months and I'm just crazy for this steel. Donald |

Donald...I think a few guys, Buddy Emmons included, raise the D string to an Eb...but on the traditional 8th(aka Boo Wah) pedal, instead of the 5th pedal. Some guys who still keep the G on top lower it to an F# with pedal 5, which is also a useful change.
I myself still like the old G to G#, but then again one of my axes is a D12 with both G and D. |

As was mentioned above: Although, I used a .016p tuned to D. (1-Tone below 2nd. str. E) and my suggestion would be to eliminate the 1st. str. Pull on Pedal #5 and move it to Pedal #8 and raise it ½-Tone to Eb. On my personal-guitar set-up I had it on an extra LKR which Lowered str.1 (1-Tone) from (D) to [C] and Lowered str.2 (½-Tone) from (E) to [Eb] and Raised str.6 (½-Tone) from (E) to [F].
