I shared the photo to the Hank Garland Facebook page (maintained by the Garland family), and they confirmed this was at the Blue Hawaii sessions.

Steve, who was the session leader and was the recording of the song Blue Hawaii or was that the LP title?

Soundtrack Session for Paramount: Blue Hawaii, March 21-23, 1961

Studio: Radio Recorders, Hollywood, California

Producers: Joseph Lilley / Hal Wallis

Engineer: Thorne Nogar

Guitar: Hank Garland, Scotty Moore, Tiny Timbrell. Bass: Bob Moore.
Drums: D.J. Fontana, Hal Blaine, Bernie Mattinson. Piano: Floyd Cramer.
Piano & Celeste: Dudley Brooks.
Saxophone: Boots Randolph.
Steel Guitar: Alvino Rey.
Harmonica: George Fields.
Ukulele: Fred Tavares, Bernie Lewis.
Vocals: The Jordanaires, The Surfers

That uke player must be Bernie Ka'ai Lewis. Youda thunk he would have been on steel for a Hawaiian project.

7 takes on "Blue Hawaii" and as many as 29 takes on "Can't Help Falling In Love".

Close to the end of Garland's career. I didn't realize he traveled to LA for it.

There was a best selling soundtrack of the film--RCA 2426.

In a Forum post some time last week, it was mentioned somewhere in the text that studio or something was located at 7th & Union

Hank Garland did a really great instrumental on Decca with that same name.

WHAT was at 7th & Union?

This building.

The National Life Insurance building.

They owned WSM Radio, with studios on the 5th floor. I think the Grand Ole Opry was housed here in 1925--before going to the Ryman Auditorium.

Hank Garland "7th & Union" Decca 8/31/51 Castle Studio Tulane Hotel 206 8th Avenue South Nashville, TN

w/ Tommy Jackson: fdl / Owen Bradley: pno

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKhRDf9hn_w

In 1947 - Castle Studios relocated from the National Life & Accident Building to the Tulane Hotel. It was here Hank Williams was recorded.

Here is Carl Smith cutting at Castle in the Tulane Hotel:

The Friday Night Opry known as the Friday Night Frolics was broadcast from the WSM Studio in the National Life and Accident Building. Here is WSM Studio C. Hank Garland is on the left and Francis Craig is playing the piano:

Buddy Emmons speaks of Shot approaching him after a Friday Night Frolic with the idea to build pedal steel guitars. This would have taken place outside the National Life and Accident Building at 7th and Union. In 1963 - the Friday Night Frolics were moved to the Ryman. WSM was very good at preserving its traditions. As late as 2005 - if you worked the Opry on a Friday Night - it would be listed on your check as "Frolic."

Finally - here is the RCA Victor Studio, Methodist Television, Radio and Film Commission, 1525 McGavock St., Nashville, TN where Elvis recorded "Heartbreak Hotel" and "I Got a Woman" in 1956:

Had a picture of the Hotel Tulane site which I took several years ago, but I give up on trying to post it; tried numerous times with little pop-up box; fails to be "sent" when I click "send", and trying to drag the photo into the other box with my message (most logical step, from my viewpoint) brings up nothing but my title of the photo. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid.[/img]/Users/anthonylis/Desktop/Nville.jpg
