Topic: LKR lever not lowering 4th string all the way down to E flat |

I posted this problem a while ago, and got some good advice, but after much tweaking, i still havent fixed the problem. The 4th string just will not go all the way down to E flat. It will lower about a quarter tone, and then will not lower any more, even after widening the travel of the lever as much as i could.
My guitar is an old Williams single neck. I have no idea what the problem could be. any suggestions are much appreciated! |

Your photo in the other thread shows the split screws at the end of the neck, but I don't see one for string 4...just 5 & 6, I think. It may be that it isn't visible in the photo because it's run in too far....can't tell.
Anyway, if there is one there for string 4, be sure it's backed out far enough to allow the proper travel.
Otherwise, revisit the other thread and double check those suggestions.. |

It's most likely what Jerry wrote. If that does not correct the problem. Then the raise member must be moving forward with the lowering member. This will cancel a lower. You'll need to turn the guitar upside down to see if this is happening. Sometimes a lower return spring that's adjusted too tight can cause this. Most times you'll need to remove the lower return spring. Free the members, work each back and forth. Clean between them, then lube and reassemble.
Hope this makes sense and corrects your problem.

i fixed it! Im still not sure exactly what the problem was; but i swapped out the 4th string finger for the 1st string finger, lubricated everything i could, and now it works great. so great that i had to back the set screw way off, because the lever was now lowering it a whole step.
I suspect that the C pedal rod might have been the problem: after i swapped the fingers and restrung the guitar and put the rods back on, the C pedal rod was rubbing against the LKR rod, such that the 4th string wasn't returning back to E after i pushed the C pedal. Maybe it was a few problems altogether. But thanks for all the helpful tips, guys. |

Good on you. The main thing is that you got it fixed and maybe learned more about the intricacies of these things in the process. Sometimes an issue defies logic, so you just have to dig into it to find it.
Might have been a finger scissors issue to which Bobby alluded that went away when you actuated and lubed everything too. |
