| I just found a garage sale bargain on a peavey profex. I've plugged it in and it says ******bypassed**** on the screen. I'm not familiar with the unit and I need some help. It has no card. I cannot get any settings to change the showing on the screen. The controls don't make any changes. Someone please advise me as to where to go form here? How do I go about checking this unit out? |

Hey Victor,
Here's the manual for the Profex II from the Peavey website which might help...check out reinitialization and bypassed sections. As I remember, a reinitialization will return the unit to FACTORY settings and might dump any pedal steel specific custom settings that many guys installed.

The ProFex was susceptible to internal battery leakage over time which could cause a lot of problems. Forum member Ken Fox was the master of cleaning up the innards after a battery leak and installing a batteryless mod for it. I think he's retired from the repair business now but may still sell the mod on his website http://foxvintageamps.com/
You might also search the forum for posts by him in the electronics section. I seem to remember there was a lot of discussion about the profex and repairs over the years. |

Reinitializing brought up the effect setting. However, there is an annoying hum and it is not communicating with my amp. No response. a
Any ideas? |

Clean the jacks? Try a different cable?

Make sure your cables are good like Lane says and fully inserted into the jacks.
so your present setup is instrument to the input jack on the front of the Profex (adjust input level) and output left and right channels on back of Profex to input left and right channels on your power amp? Don't forget to adjust the output level on the BACK of the Profex or you won't hear anything. |

Battery leakage will mute the output of the unit. Sometimes fixable but requires the board to be removed and thoroughly cleaned and likely several components near the battery area will have to be replaced.
