I purchased a Dobro yesterday and wondered if G B D G B D was the correct open G tuning?

Yes, if you're listing it from low to high. That's the standard bluegrass tuning... 2 G major triads. One problem with that tuning IMHO is it's lack of a 3 note minor chord. I prefer C6 tuning on dobro (E, C, A, G, E, C, high to low) to get a wider range of chords.
