Anyone know what size die I need to put a bit more thread on my GFI ultra?
I have a 10 32 which I thought would be the right size but when I screw it onto the existing thread it doesnt go on easily and I dont want to mess up the thread.
Just wondered if anyone had done this?

Take a better look. Many of these are rolled, not cut.

It could be that you have the right size but the original is a rolled not a cut thread. You need to check that a die cut thread would not have too much play in the receiver.

If your goal is to raise the pedal height, you may want to check to determine where the pedal connector bottoms out on the rod. To achieve your purpose, it may be necessary to remove a bit off the end of the rod as well.

I need to lower the guitar a bit, ideally I would buy shorter legs and rods but I'm in the UK and the price is very high. I am making some shorter legs but may need to shorten the rods slightly by putting a bit more thread on and cutting a bit off

Also thinking of making shorter rods if I can find the correct die to put a thread on
I'll try emailing GFI

but it goes on a little way, right? I've been where you are, and having cut a portion of thread I discovered that it pulled out of the receiver as the overall diameter of the rolled thread is larger on account of the displaced metal. 10x32 is almost certainly the right size but you need to find a way of retaining it that works for your particular guitar. On mine the female portion was tubular so I gave it a squeeze in the vice. Might not work for you. Smile

I have a GFI S12 Ultra. I removed on of my pedal rods and done some measuring. The rod diameter is .167 inch. Diameter of the threads measure .188 defintally a rolled thread. I went to the shop and cut a set of threads with a CRAFTSMAN 10-32 die and these threads measured .187-.188 inch OD. I took one of the Pedal rods out and it fit in the pedal bracket as tight as the rod. You may have a out of standard die.

If you can not find a suitable die. Contact GFI and see what a new set would cost. Rods, Shipping, and Duty Fees to import into England. If to much cost. The only other alternative would be go in the Back Door Way.
That would be to keep the threads original and go to the other end of the rods. Make a bending jig and cut the rods to the new total length and bend new
hooks on the rods. A 1/2 inch piece of steel with a hole drilled a 1/4 inch from edge and a 1/8 radius ground or filed on it, and use another rod to get the angle. This would be the last result way. GOOD LUCK and HAPPY STEELIN

Cheers guys, I tried the die on my shobud rods and was Ok on them so I think the die is the right size but if they're rolled I'll have to rethink. I have some brass rod lying around so I'll have a go at bending jig
