I’m giving a concert on Wednesday, July 20, at 8 PM, in the Pico-Fairfax area of L.A. The venue is the MiMoDa dance studio and theater. The address is 5772 W, Pico Blvd, on the corner of Pico and Ogden, 2 blocks east of Fairfax. The studio is located in back of a restaurant called the Paper or Plastik Café. When you drive by the location, you only see the restaurant. The entrance to the studio is in the restaurant.
MiMoDa has concerts every Wednesday. Every one features different artists. But the studio has an in house dance troupe which performs every week. For my concert, they will do an interpretive dance to my recording of Afternoon of a Faun. http://www.perlowinmusic.com/DebussyAfternoonofaFaun.mp3
This is a classical music venue that caters to the Mozart-Beethoven crowd. Most of the people there have either never seen a steel guitar before, or have only seen mine, when I played there before. I will be playing a program of mostly, but not entirely, classical music.
Here is the program:
1 Gabriel Fuaré: Pavane
2 Morten Lauridsen*: Dirait-On
3 Claude Debussy: Le Petit Negre
4 Claude Debussy: Reverie
5 George Gershwin: Prelude #2
6 Luiz Bonfa: Manha de Carnival from Black Orpheus
7 Igor Stravinsky: Berceuse and Finale from the Firebird Suite
8 Richard Rogers: Medley from The Sound Of Music
9 Michael Praetorius: Bourrée from Terpsichore
10 Anton Dvorak: Largo from Symphony #9 (AKA The New World Symphony.)
11 Francesca Tárrega: Recuerdos De La Alhambra
12 Jim Webb: MacArthur Park
*Morten Lauridsen is still alive and lives in Hollywood. I have invited him to attend the concert and hear his piece played on a steel.
I hope that those of you within driving distance will attend.
