Those of you who are familiar with Dekleys can probably offer some information. I have toyed with the idea of changing out a pickup on an S12 but without doing some digging I have yet to determine how the pickup was mounted. It appears that the pickup was set in place and then the neck insert installed over the pickup . The mounting screws are not visible. There is just a hole in the neck big enough for the pickup to protrude through. This is the instrument in question. If it is too involved I will probably abandon the idea. On most instruments the pickup fits down into a cavity big enough to accommodate the unit and its mounting tabs. Thanks in advance. The forum is a great resource.

| Screws are under the PU, going through the soundboard and held in place in place by two small nuts w/washers inside the body. Not always easy to get to because of the pull-rods. |

| So does the pickup have to drop out through the under carriage ? Rather than lifting it up out of the pickup well? |

| Unscrew the nuts on the underside and pull the PU straight up from topside - after removing the strings. Make sure not to bend the screws that sits in the PU, or lose the springs that sits on those screws. |

| One thing that baffled me was that most pickups have three or four tabs protruding out of the side of it that are used for mounting it. The pickup on this Dekley must not have these tabs, otherwise it could not lift up out of the cavity, because the mounting hole is the exact size of the of the pickup dimensions. So the pickup must have threaded holes in the bottom of it to fasten it in place from the under-carriage. |

Two screws through the PU's bottom-plate, somewhat like this...
I have taken off the original PUs on three Dekleys over the years, and although they did not all look the same they were all attached the same way. |

Georg is right, also. You want to be really careful with this because the neck opening is only large enough for the pickup body. I have an S10 and I switch from the stock pickup you see above to a George L like what you have and it took some engineering to make a mount for the George L that would line up with the existing holes. Any aftermarket pickup you put in there will have to have the mount tabs taken off.....so be very careful.....my opinion.

I changed my D-10 to add Lawrence 710 pickups (Narrow mount). All I had to do was round off the corners of the pickup mounting plates with a file.
I believe I had to drill a couple of holes (1 per neck) for the pickup leads. It was an easy job though. The 710's sound great, and are practically
noiseless even when the guitar is close to the amp.
