Topic: I Need help on bass amp FROm yOU GUYS WHO PLAY BASS |

I would like your opion on just these 2 amp combo set ups only. which one would you choose. a fender rumble 500 with the 15in speaker or the peavey Tko 600wt with the15 in speakers. now I would like a opion on these 2 only. not what might be better or what you use to use or what a band member uses. these are combo amps the fender is a 500wt the peavey is a 600wt and as time goes on I would add a extra speaker cabinet to which ever I get but I would like your input thanks

If I had to choose 1 I'd take the TKO, that line has been very reliable.

| Will, while I've never owned either of those amps, I'm going with Walter on this one...the Peavey bass amps I've owned and played through were reliable and had the power I needed, at the time. +1 on the TKO w/2x10's! FWIW |

I owned a Peavey TKO bass amp with 15" speaker when I played bass...it was great for bass, but not for steel. I even considered adding a tweeter to it. The TKO will not give you the highs.
At our recent steel meet, a player was using the Fender Rumble and it sound pretty good...plus it is light weight. |

Also a big difference between 2 10s, and a 15. The 10s will produce more high frequencies than a 15 that's designed for a bass rig.
I repaired a LOT of Peavey equipment in the day, and rarely ever saw a TKO come across my bench. I vote yes on the TKO.

Will, I looked at both of these amps and ended up buying the TKO... If you’re looking for ease of movement the TKO is not it... If you’re looking for good Beefy Bass, then I’d say it is... That said, when I added a Crate 15†Cabinet underneath the TKO, (cause it had casters and made moving the thing easier) that’s when the TKO I felt really came to life, and the tone and presence really improved... I played in a fairly good sized church, and the old lady’s in the back loved to feel some of the notes in there feet

That's like saying a truck will have more horsepower than a car. Completely dependent on the individual subject and wrong often enough to dismiss the statement almost outright.
Bass is my first instrument and having done it for 15 years or so now I would 100% go with this as my gigging bass rig.

Otherwise I think you made the correct decision. Those peavey combos have always been solid in my experience. |

I've played through a Fender Rumble 500 and was very satisfied with the sound. If GK didn't exist, I'd probably be using one.
I've never played through a Peavey bass amp.

b0b beat me to it! I'd highly suggest the GK stuff.. it is super light and sounds great... the MB series is great... not expensive and sounds really good and my 112 combo is right around 30 lbs...
most drummers i play with that is fine.. but if you need a bit more you can buy one of their powered cabinets and run their "chain link" or whatever its called.. you can run multiple cabs off the first amp with no thought of Oms and matching impedance so you actually ARE getting more power...
I hope the PV stuff is lighter and better now.. the TKO's and stuff like that literally became a joke in the music stores around here cause they were SO heavy, awkward, didn't sound great... but then again this board seems to be obsessed by the idea that Peaveys are great amps... 
The Fender rumble stuff I've heard is good too... but i do work for a music store here that carries both and I'd vote for the GK all day. |

Well now that the topic has drifted to "favorite bass amps", I'll pitch a vote for the MarkBass stuff...it's what o play through nowadays.
Light weight, but pricey...around 36 lbs, and sounds great! |

I've been using the Peavey amps since the 70's. First a TKO, now we're splitting a late 90's TNT combo into a head cab and separate cabinet for the 15" and the horn. We're also splitting a Peavey extension 4x10 bass cab into 2 2x10 cabs w/piezos. The TNT combo added to the 4x10 is an awesome package, but it's large and heavy to tote.... thus the splits. It'll be friendlier to handle then and more versatile too.
I don't know why people bash Peavey amps. Either the TKO or the TNT combos are fine amplifiers and completely reliable workhorses in my experience.
The TNT has more features and more power, but either one gets the job done.
I have no experience with the Rumble amp, so I can't speak to them. |

Hey Will, I LOVE the tone I get from my 1981 Peavey TKO 80, but I kept getting..
"Oh a Peavey, I'm sorry!" So with a new cosmetic update, people love my 'ZAP' amp.
And the tone is great. You might try the settings below, including the 'bright' switch, add some reverb and just HIT IT
p.s. I keep another one if these as a spare...they're that good.
