Hi Everyone,

Nathan Emerson and I are both steel players who are making a documentary about the steel.

We love this instrument and we are blessed with a great mentor who would not let us give up on learning to play. This is our way of giving back and spreading the gospel of the steel guitar.

Please take a few minutes to check out our indiegogo campaign where you will find short videos and information on the project.

We appreciate your support and interest in our project.

Hi Kelsey, looks like an exciting project which deserves support, so I put my money down.

You'll be aware of the other steel guitar documentary in progress and it looks like there won't be much overlap with your interviewees, so the two projects should complement each other nicely. It's refreshing to see so many younger working players who generally get little recognition on the pages of this forum and elsewhere.

I'm not sure that I agree with your premise (and hashtag) that the future of pedal steel is in doubt. Are you sure it needs saving? It's just like the majority of instruments isn't it? Less common than the dozen at the top that everyone plays. Smile

I'm really looking forward to seeing the film and I hope this forum gets behind it.

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you so much for your contribution and support!

I agree that both documentaries in progress will complement each other well and we both have great stories to tell.

Our film examines the question of what is the future of the steel guitar. The premise is that there is a whole generation that is unfamiliar with the instrument and we feel that we can make an impact by introducing and promoting steel guitar.

Thanks again!

Can't wait for this to be finished!
I love that the younger generation of players are featured and it will be a great promotional tool! Get some country, Americana, rock, heck even EDM or hip hop haha. Show the kids what the instrument can do and I'm sure this will go far further a field outside of the steel community and into a sea of teens and co. The kids at my English high school respect the steel playing country and like "some sounds", I played rock for them and they were all over it. The country element of the film is still fantastic though. The production of the trailer is very good which is very important when leading to the idea of the final film. Looks very professional.

Once the film is finished try and get the big music news sites and blogs to feature it! Then the film will do the talking.

Again I think this is fantastic and I wish you the best of luck with it!

Thank you so much Steven!

We are on the same page. It's all about getting the younger generation excited and it should be exciting for music lovers of every age to watch. We will definitely get the word out to sites, blogs, etc. once the film is finished.

Your support is greatly appreciated!

For those interested in our documentary, here is what the T-shirt design looks like. We were very excited to work with internationally renown artist Pat Moriarity and wanted the image to look timeless as we explore the future of steel. The instrument we love so much.

If you feel so moved please consider donating to the project

Here is an article Trigger wrote up about our film. It does a great job explaining our goal and heart of the story.

Saving Country Music typically doesn't help with crowd sourcing projects but they felt there was importance to our project. Please give it a read, and if it so moves you consider funding our film! THANKS!

From the sound of E9 playing Dobro to tuning a raise at the end, this is a great promo that promises a really good finished product.

Not only are people wondering what's that sound, but some guys are going to want to play dobro on pedal steel.
I can't see why this project wouldn't attract attention. I'll give. This is a super project.
