I am designing a new amp - or rather hacking about and modifying a very old Hi-Fi tube amp. I mostly play guitar and I am going to install a tone stack based on the classic Fender design - which has a pronounced dip in frequency response in the mid frequence range. I wondered if this is what steel players normally like to hear, or if you prefer a flat frequency response like the Fender SteelKing, or the various acoustic guitar amps. The reason is - I am thinking of making a switchable tone stack that could be modified from a guitar amp mid scoop to an acoustic or slide friendly flat frequency response. I play an early 1960's National Dynamic, but extremely badly, so that is the instrument I would be using.

Thanks for any and all comments!

Brian

There ain't no one normal. You can approximate a flat amp by using a good-enough stereo setup ( say, 100W or better ) and a DI/mixer combination with reverb to taste. Roll off at somewhere from 2000 to 500 Hz also to taste.

But really? try before you buy. That may be a challenge in Nova Scotia ( I simply don't know ).
