Where did the word "copedant" come from ? Who used it first ?
At first glance I thought it was
"codependant", which would have made sense since the note depends on both the tuning and pedal/knee position.
FWIW: "Copedant" is not in the dictionary but, according to the Wikepedia, a pedant is "someone who pays too much attention
to minor details."

At the risk of being totally wrong, somewhere I heard that it was a word coined by Tom Bradshaw.

Supposedly we're supposed to pronounce it coh-pee-dent. That sounds obscene to me, and I don't get it. We say pedal, not peedal. I also, say puh-cahn, not pee-can, and prah-leen, not pray-leen (actually, I say praw-leen). But I say toh-may-toh, not toh-mah-to; so I'm not sure where that puts me. But I just can't bring myself to say coh-pee-dent. |

Can we maybe also get an allowance here that, for the FAQ, either spelling will be allowed (even if one is technically wrong) 'cause it does appear that the word is otherwise gonna be mispelled 50% of the time anyway |

David, just repeat coh-pee-dent over and over, about 1,000 times and soon it won't sound obscene at all. You might even get to like it.??

Just a short term for "SETUP" that was used for years before a new word had to be invented.

I don't know what "copedant" means, but to paraphrase what Fred said: "What have you got on that tuning? (and the steeler detuned before he took his break before someone figured it out).
It's a miracle that there are any standards in the tunings we use today!

I hate the term "Copedant". I posted about this over a year ago. I wish they'd ban it from being used. [This message was edited by Nick Reed on 25 December 2004 at 07:11 AM.] |
