Ok......I'm not putting these out there for a pat on the back.....or a kick in the shorts. I just know when I started I was real curious "How Long Will It Take??". So, this is me, after owning my Stage One just three months. Take it for what it's worth.

Now, I've been playing guitar professionally for 25+ years, including a lot of standard slide. I also owned a C6 8string Lap Steel for a few months before getting the PSG. I didn't really get along with that so well, though.

I can play a bit better and cleaner without the fingerpicks, but I'm committed to using them, so I have them on here.

I don't know if this will encourage or discourage other beginners.....but at the very least, it will give you old hands something to laugh at! Laughing Laughing Laughing

PS......Thanks to everyone on the site here that've been quick to answer my stupid questions and generally real supportive! It's a great resource.

Nobody's laughing at you, Jim. I think that is quite impressing for three months. Looks like you devote a lot of rime and energy into learning!

Keep on!

Kind Regards, Walter

No chuckling going on here sir...
That was very nice and quite amazing for just 3 months.
If I were you I would be very pleased.
There's a reason I play lap steel. They don't have pedals.
6 strings is enough for me. I'm keeping my feet out of it...... Smile

Nicely done for a newbie.. you have a distinct advantage over most as you know how to tune, have developed an ear, and have an understanding of music theory.
Keep on keepin on

Sounds great. How's the string spacing on your Stage One for using your bare fingers? I am starting to shop for a pedal steel myself and REALLY prefer bare fingers when playing lap steel.

You are off to a great start! The 25+ of guitar helps tremendously! I doubt the average joe could get that far without having a musical background. The only advice I can give you is keep the passion and practice, practice and practice!

Thanks guys.......I needed a little encouragement/kick in the backside. This past week, with all my other gigs and commitments, was the first time I didn't put much time into practicing. I'm ready to get back at it.

Bob, I can't compare the Stage One to other PSG's, as it's the only one I've played for any length of time. It's definitely a good bit tighter than most lap steels I've played. I felt pretty comfortable with bare fingers pretty quickly....but I am spending most of my time with picks now. These videos are with picks, BTW.
