It re-introduces a little saturation. Kinda like a small tube rig being pushed a bit.

This is a description of the controls I found on a review of an Evans amp:

Master: This is also the on/off switch.

Scruff: Adds a very subtle “tube like” warmth.

Reverb: (digital) Evans mentioned that this is a “hall” setting, and besides having a very musical sound it’s also extremely versatile if you want a slightly lusher sound for example.

Bass: Ron Eschete suggested the closed back design to make bass notes more precise.

Depth: This is another very useful feature. As most of us have figured out by now, bass and treble settings are usually not an issue. The midrange frequencies, however have always been a real problem for all guitarists. Using the depth, you can dial in just the right amount of richness without the mud effect.

Body: Used to set the desired amount of midrange and darkness. This is a multi-function control that increases low midrange tones while rolling off high frequencies.

Expand: Think of this as the “cut through the mix” adjustment. This feature boosts the highs and the lows.

The Body and Depth control are interactive with the treble and bass control. Has taken me some trial and error to dial this in especially with older Evans amps that have the Body and Depth controls as a switch rather than a dial.

With that said,, I enjoy these features. My playing out amp is an Evans AH200 that weighs 5 pounds using a 12 inch single cab. I have the scruf control on 1, just enough to get slight edge.
