This may be a silly question, but I'm curious - when Curly Chalker played C6, was he every known to double foot the pedals? It sounds like he uses his volume pedal to such great effect that I would guess not, but can't tell from any of his videos.
Thanks - just wondering, partially because I'm disinclined to do so myself, but partially just wanting to know more about this remarkable instrument and the great players who played it _________________ Christopher Woitach

I'm inclined to think he would have, because 5 and 7 play together so well.
But I bet he could get off and on the volume pedal smoothly. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Never saw Curly in person, but I did see Jimmy Day in 1964 with Ray Price. He danced all over the C6th pedals with both feet.
Jimmy was a big part of the show!

I saw Curly several times, but I don't recall seeing him double-foot pedals. That said, he probably did at one time or another, but I'd guess that his setup that he used later through most of his career really didn't require it. It's like this...if you feel you need to use a certain move, you do it. But remember, if there's some move, chord, or whatever that other steelers use that you're not using, the only ones who will likely notice...or care...is another steeler.
What really matters (to me, anyway) is how well we play. I'm sure that few players fault (or even notice) that Lloyd doesn't have or use some of the popular changes, yet he still manages to make masterful music. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I admit - I never never double foot, and Reece Anderson always discouraged it. My copedent works great without it, for what I do _________________ Christopher Woitach

This seems an appropriate place to remind you that I still have hundreds of Chalker DVDs sitting in boxes in my garage.
The price is $17.50. 15 bucks for the DVD, and the rest for mailing expenses.
The DVD is footage from 2 concerts Curly gave in December of 1986, one in St Louis, and one in California. It's over 2 hours on non-stop playing. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.
