Wouldn't you love to plug a PSG into that rig?

One extra high E note, and every window in 10 miles is GONE!

I heard the Grateful Dead play through that system a couple of times and it was an amazingly clean powerful full-bodied sound. And I swear... I was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol during either of those concerts. JBL powered by McIntosh on a biblical scale.

So why was "Steal Your Face" so pathetically thin?

I read somewhere that Phil Lesh had separate amplification/speaker for each string on his bass in this setup

How would you like to have been one of their roadies and had to haul all that stuff around and set it all up? Shocked

"Steal Your Face" was a horrible recording... sounded like something was out of phase. Live that system sounded great. The tweeter array was in the center...

The band hated the vocal sound from this system. The only way you can have these speakers facing into the mics without crippling feedback is with an extensive, intensive deliberate phase cancellation system. Apparently it really screwed up the sound. The instruments were apparently heavenly (I never heard this rig--it came along after the last time I saw them).

Only if I get the whole wall to play through. I saw the Dead with this system 2 or 3 times. Simply awesome.

I saw the Dead with this "OZ" system at Winterland in San Francisco. Phil Lesh's lowest bass notes had such a long wavelength you could watch the crowd rise and sink like ocean waves.

I heard it was hell for the guys on stage, but out front it was pure Grateful Dead heaven. An experience I'll never forget (and I wasn't stoned in case you're wondering) Smile

Maybe the most amazing thing about it is that it never killed anybody.

Saw the Dead and Company with John Mayer this last New Year's Eve and the night before at the Forum in L.A. John Meyer did Jerry's parts. He was very good but not the transendental Jerry at his finest. New Year, a 30' long joint flew thru the Forum and Bill Walton was Father Time. Not enough of the country songs, no Mama Tried nor El Paso.
