I have been spending (er...wasting) way too much time looking at speaker replacement options for my Musicman HD130 212. I'm looking to double purpose the amp for steel and six string, but figure I should make the speaker choice with the steel in mind, since I can more easily add effects to shape the six string sound.
From what I've read, I'm mostly interested in minimizing the mid-high end bark that the Musicman seems to be guilty of. I'd also love to shave some weight, so looking for lighter weight speakers.
Choices down to:
1. Weber Chicago 12 Ceramic
2. Weber California 12 Ceramic
3. Jensen Jet Tornado 12 (neo)
I considered the Telonics but it's just too spendy.
Anybody want to weigh in? This is getting out of control and it's time to decide! Thanks, David |

The Chicago would be my pick of the 3 for sound, but it wouldn't save you any weight. |

I have some 2-12 cabs that I use for both electric guitar and steel.
I'd recommend...
some company's version of a Jensen C12N..maybe Weber or other.
2 Celestion G12H 30. The American side of Celestion and pretty even. Not too heavy.
BW. This won't save your back but it is a time tested formula for steel.

How loud do you play? Also, is your amp miced or not? That may help you choose a speaker if you are looking for the amp to do double duty with steel and guitar. |
