I have an interesting (and possibly naive) question.... I was thinking about how some guys take a Sarno V8 and go "power amp in" with it on their Nashville 112.... I was thinking about doing the same with my Renown 115. Assuming the built in preamp is no longer being used, would it be possible to actually remove it? I mean, do the dirty internal work to keep the power amp portion and remove the preamp section to make room for a new preamp. I know the more practical answer is to just sell the amp, buy a tone block, and make a custom cab... But I'm just curious if a franken-amp is even possible... Devil

I suspect that it's all on one board, making a moduleotomy nearly impossible, since amps have at least 4 sections: power supply; preamp; reverb (although you can call that part of the preamp), and power amp.
The original Session 500 physically separated the preamp, but the power amp and power supply were together on a separate board.

I had to go look up pictures of an amp board to see what you meant... I rest my case Embarassed Why doesn't peavey offer a small power amp for those of us who want to have crazy experiments?? It seems like a tone block is the only answer for a small power amp that could be rigged in a custom combo cab... Otherwise a heavy, multi-piece rack rig is the only option. I wish there were more options to build custom combo amps.

If you have the preamp you like, here's 500W of Class D power at 52 cents per watt

Now we're talkin! I didn't know stuff like that existed.. Is that a path that many people have taken though? Is it common knowledge that a kit like this could be used? I haven't seen a suggestion like this in any of my thread searches...

You could also Google class D power amp module.
I found this right quick.

We are doing it right now in the Mini Mega and the Mini Max amplifiers. It's not a matter of if it can be done.................

Mike, don't you make a powered cab? Power amp and speaker in one box.

Yes, we've been selling the PVxP series of sound reinforcement enclosures for awhile now. The Max Bass amp series is D powered.
