Yes, I remember you, Mike! I also remember trying to help you get your steel up to the tiny stage.
Got some gigs coming up, things could be busier (gotta be careful what I wish for, though....), but going well.
Hope things are good down your way.

Daniel, thanks for the help that night, it was tough trying to get thru the crowd that night.
Things are good down this way, still picking mostly with a band with my brother playing bluegrass and old country and a few swing and blues numbers to even it up.
A friend, Gerry Simon will also be purchasing a Surgical Steel amp, so I hopefully will get a chance to hear one soon down this way.

Got an email from Doc Z when I woke up today (around 1:30pm) that my Surgical Steel amp was finished. I had a gig at 7pm so I decided to drive up to the factory and pick it up; I couldn't wait!
Drove home and gathered the rest of my equipment and headed to the club. Trial by fire ...it worked great. This gig was with my rock band and I use a lot of distorted effected sounds but I found myself using a lot more pure steel sounds because the new amp was full, clean and warm sounding. Now I have plenty of power at any level I need to balance with the loudest or the quietest of bands. That sweet tube sound. It will be even more appreciated when it's used with the Garth Brooks and George Strait tribute band I also work with!! Thanks Doc Z! |

That's great! The EF86 preamp really handles effects much better than a 12AX7. And so does the buffered loop. And it feeds the KT88s the signal they need. The amp is something new, and I love mine!

| Yeah, he is, John...a great guy and makes a darn good product. Our guitar man in the Garth tribute band already has a Z amp for the guitar; now he wants that new DB4 amp the Doc designed with Brad Paisley ...I'm hoping he comes up with a good harmonica amp sometime! I'm looking forward to trying my new amp with some of the George Strait tunes we do, because they keep the steel clean and full and I'll be able to really enjoy some of it's qualities. |

I LOVE the simpler tone controls. The sound samples sound dreamy.
And tubes - well, there's no other way to get that honest tone (IMHO)

| I am used to doing a lot of twisting the tone controls to get a sound I like but I had very little to adjust on this amp...it seems voiced very close to what I wanted...I'll try it with a few different speakers today to see how it sounds; a couple 12s and a couple 15s...it sounded fine with my Eminence EPS-15C in a Telonics ported, closed back cab...will try a Sica w/ open back cab today. |
