Very right on honest commentary. I only watched the show to see TK and the Strangers band. Half the audience looked like they were asking "Merle Who"? Anyone notice they took the Fighting side of me off before the punch line. LOL. As far as the Music prior to The Strangers part, I say each to their own. I'm not against the new generation loving their Music (I'm being nice calling it that) and performers. But calling it Country? They just need their own ID without ruining the history of a great Genre. Calling it Southern Rock wouldn't insult anyone. The Guitar players looked like they were mad at their guitar's, I expected at anytime one would smash it on the stage. Luke Bryan looked like he left a coalmine to perform and the Ladies mostly looked like they left a stripper bar. But Dwight is confused if he compares Bakersfield to what is the scene now. Nashville is the more likely suspect. There were a few steel guitars on stage last night and good players behind them but it was great to actually hear one when Norm played. I'll bet a lot of Kids missed school today |

Yeah with the only worthwhile moment being Toby and the Strangers, which was much too short IMO, the word forgettable pretty well sums it up...Stormy |

Perhaps I misunderstand what you are trying to say but calling it Southern rock would be an insult to the original Southern Rock genre, including the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Elvin Bishop. etc |

I don't about anyone else, but Vince and Paul's tribute to Merle is possibly one of, if not the most beautiful, heart wrenching song I've ever heard...magnificent IMO...Stormy |

I do not watch nor would I give any mention or credit to those nuts who produce the current country award shows, but they did an ok-however weak job of honoring Haggard. They should have mentioned Norm Hamlit as being one of the longest members of The Strangers. But nice to see Merle's son.
Merle was my all time favorite singer, not only country but all styles. Every song he wrote or performed was my favorite. Hard to say that about another other singer or performer.
To be honest, they should have had Vince Gill and Paul Franklin do "A World Without Haggard" What gets me in that song is not Franklin but the lyrics and how Gill interprets those lyrics. |
