I had one for several years and had good service from it. I didn't care much for the stock speaker so I swapped it for a 1501 black widow. For my taste, I liked it better. I personally prefer tube amps, but the Steel King had a good tone. _________________ Charlie Powell |

One of my favorite amps of all time. Great in the studio. At times it will bottom out on a gig if you set the bass too high. I prefer the stock speaker although it can be a bit shrill at high volume and with certain guitars. I found the EQ super easy to tweak.
My experiment with a a Steel King with a Black Widow speaker:

A bunch of sound samples obtained with my Steel King:

As with many amp speakers, the sound will change and often get more mellow as the speaker ages and gets a lot of use. |

I've had mine for a long time and I'm still lovin' it.
I replaced the original speaker with a lightweight SICA speaker. My weak back and skinny arms thank me every time I load it in the back of my old Explorer. _________________ Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande
There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.
