I used Jeff Newmans tuning and I use the old Nashville tuning. I had someone say to tune ever thing 440 and the 3 and 6 tune to -5 and some say -10.What is the best tuning to use.

What ever works for you and makes you happy. It's a never ending debate. I use the Peterson VS-ll with the Newman tempered tuning. Works for me.

Hi guys
Here food for thought. I was using Jeff Newman tempered tuning up until last week. I've been in the studio for the last two nights redoing takes do to the fact the pitch is off with the bass and guitar, player so, I'm now tuning back to 440 which is working out just fine |

| I have a question related to tuning. What is the "standard" tuning for the top string on the C6th. neck? I have some BE tab, and he tunes the first string to a "D". I used Jeff Newman's chart to tune the back neck, and he used a "G". Which one is the most commonly used? I would like to get some C6th. courses, and it would help if the tuning matched. |

The old C6 standard had a G on top. Many still consider that the standard, however, many of us changed to a D on top quite a few years ago. I like both so it doesn't matter to me what they call standard. But really I think the G on top is officially standard in most people's minds.
Find what way of tuning works for your ears and situation. Thats the right way. |

It depends on the guitar too.
My former Sho-Bud Pro III Custom sounded great tuning everything to 440 and flatten 3 and 6, but on the guitar I'm playing now, it's a no no. I'm using Jef Newman's chart to tune this one.
