What would you get if you had a rich benefactor who would buy you any steel you wanted, no matter how expensive?
I'd have Doug Seymour make me a custom 12 string Encore with 4 pedals, 5 knees and my wrist lever. It would be my "beach steel."

Interesting...you would consider moving away from MSA???
Those new Legends & Studio Pro are sweet looking instruments!
This is a loaded question, to be sure. There are so many fine builders/guitars on the market these days, I wouldn't know which to choose. Possibly the one that offers the easiest copedent changes, unlike my Sierra, lol.

It'd be a 4-way toss-up between MSA, Excel, Williams and a Cass/Emmons push-pull.

Yes, for a beach/rehearsal guitar. The MSAs are too nice to take to the beach. I want another guitar that I don't have to worry about scratching up.

| If money was no object, I would engage with the local workshops to have my own PSG design built. Would require plenty work on my part too, as none of them have any idea what a PSG is all about - which is just as well since only a few parts will look like what is found on/in traditional PSGs. |

franklin, infinity, zum.....oh wait...
they don't make those anymore.
jch, emmons..don't make them.
mullens don't excite me.
there are lots of nice looking newer brands
but their track records aren't established yet.
msa should be tops. they seem a bit sterile.
as my friend said about his millenium...the best $4000 steel that $6000 can by!
gfi, bmi, jackson...not aesthetically right.
show pro...should be great. no splits at changer.
justice and rittenberrymay be super. never played one.
ben rom, beautiful but only single 10'sat the moment.
that leaves me with old zums and emmons in the garage. still totally capable rides. |

Welcome to the candy store, kids!
Okay, this would not be a decision I could make on the spot, but here would be some considerations, or ones I'd like to try at least:
- Fender PS 210 (because they are worth a lot, but maybe I'd keep it if I liked it - is keeping it a requirement?)
- Franklin (same as above)
- My own steel design (not going to bore you with details)
- Lamar
- Emmons SKH
- MSA Red Baron
- Zum
- MSA Legend
- JCH
All guitars would either be lacquer over a dark stain or black opaque (mica or otherwise).
My top choice would be my own design. |

I actually already have my dream steel. It is an MSA D12 with 8 pedals and 5 knee levers. I am not super happy with the copendant but a friend is going to help me swaps it once some parts come it.

I would order a Justice SDS10 Judge with 4 & 5 or a BMI SD10 with 4 & 5. Already have 2 BMI's and have played Fred's guitars. Wes

Currently available:
MSA Millenium or Legend D-10, 9+10,lighted frets,full compliment of interchangeable pickups, 2 '77 Vibrosonic amps.
ANY steel at all: I would like to have back my D-10 Bolt on PP, with 9+7,that I sold like an idiot back around '08.
Or any Zum D-10

I'd just get overhauls on the ones I have (2 x ZB S-10; Sho-Bud D-10 and Emmons Student) from a master tech and find other things to waste profligate largesse on. Well, OK a Clinesmith, but otherwise I haven't heard or seen anything I like better (Frank Carter's Infinity may be the exception, but I understand that lusting after one is academic by now.) Add a Fender tube amp (wait, I'll never need more than the Princeton Reverb I already have--what, me gig?) and I'm done.

My bucket list pedal steel will do more, weight less, stay in tune better than my 6139. Why not a 4x5 Encore, I get to choose the color?
