Hi all, I normally hang out in the pedal steel forum so this is my 1st post with all you steelers without pedals Smile

Couple weeks ago I bought an 8 string home built pedal steel I wasn't at all happy with, so decided to convert it into a C6 console steel. Just finished the conversion and am really happy with the result so wanted to share a few pix. The finish is what I call my "space nebula burst" and comes from off the shelf Home Depot spray can enamel (after a thorough sanding and nice coat of primer of course). The one thing I loved on the original was the musical note fretboard so I was sure to keep that protected and intact.

This plays just fantastic in it's new role as a steel and is light enough to be comfortable as either a console or a lap. Here it is Winking

It looks fantastic!
One question: What kind of wood is the head piece made of? I am wondering how stable it is for the tuning machines. Since I have been pondering the idea of making a similar head stock for a 10 string.

Thanks
Dom

Thanks everyone!

Hi Dom, I have no idea what kind of wood the headpiece is as I didn't build it myself. It was a bit unstable as a pedal steel (likely due to the pedal change mechanism) but since I converted it to a console/lap I haven't noticed any tuning issues.

Best of luck in your project!

Dennis
