Unfortunately I'll be in Tucson Arizona during that time, otherwise I'd be there early! It sounds like a great time. I hope someone will be filming or photographing the show.

Are you playing the folk festival, Brad? If not, it's downtown and it's free.

No, I'll be visiting family and attending a conference with my lovely wife. Thanks for the link, though - that looks interesting (although not as interesting as the steel summit, though!).

Hi Larry,

I did rsvp but haven't heard back anything and wanted to confirm my spot. Where should I look for details (start time etc). Also would like to know if i should bring an amp or is that already covered?

Here's a Facebook page that I just created this morning.
https://www.facebook.com/events/560473047464264/

Details -
1st Annual Northern California Non-Pedal Steel Guitar Summit
at Gryphon Stringed Instruments
211 Lambert Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94306
650.493.2131
2-6pm
free!

Special Guests include Bobby Black and Todd Clinesmith of Clinesmith Guitars!

Please RSVP here or email me if you've not already done so.

Please feel free to bring (to show and/or share) one or two steels if you wish. I will be bringing my Clinesmiths, a pre-war Ricky B-7 and perhaps a Gibson EH-150-7. We could probably also use a few small amps to share, too.

Please message me with what you have if you'd like, I can compile a list and share so folks know what to expect and we don't end up with 25 Pandas. (:

Hi Bill:

Thanks for offering. A small practice amp would be great, please no Twin Reverbs or Marshall Stacks. I actually think something like a Roland Micro-Cube is pretty ideal, decent sound, small, and a good basis to hear the differences between steels. (:

I know a lot of us have a lot of gear, and I'd just like to keep things pretty simple and focused on the steels and players getting to know each other.

Should also mention and thank the folks at Gryphon for hosting - they are one of the best shops in the whole wide world and they are excited about the gathering as well!

Best,
LC

Glad to hear about this event & hope it's a big success so it keeps on happenin'. I went to my first HSGA meeting in Fort Collins with my wife Karen last year & we really had a blast. Unfortunately we'll be out of the country on May 1, so can't make the event at Gryphon or play with my Hawaiian music friends at "Day Under the Oaks" at Santa Rosa JC. Hope you all get some good uke players, Hawaiian singers & hula dancers to join you & put on a show too. What could be more fun on May Day? Jer

Scott Walker from Scott Walker Guitars in Santa Cruz will be there, too, along with a prototype stereo hollow body lap steel. Coolio!

Please RSVP as space is limited. A fun afternoon of steelin'!

Mike, I would send the Cessna Citation back east to pick you up, but unfortunately it's in the shop for required maintenance.

Just kidding - the closest I'll ever come to owning a Citation would be a plastic model kit.

I'm bringing a small amp, a Vox Valvetronix 20 for folks to use in checking out guitars.

And as the Name Tag Monitor I will take some time on Saturday and prepare them prior to the journey on Sunday from The Wine Country to Palo Alto, land of absurdly priced real estate.
