Hello Everyone;
I have Mr. Norm Hamlet's permission ( via Mr. Larry Petree ) to post this for him as follows:
There will be a segment of an award show that will air this coming Sunday at 8pm on the Fox network.
It's not the Fox News channel as I understand.
Norm and the Strangers will be backing Toby Keith on some of Merle's songs..
Norm said it's like "Country Count Down", but not sure about the name of the show.
Please check your guide this Sunday so you will not miss this show!!
I wanted to add that the whole band is still trying to get thru this great loss for them.
Some of you may not know this but Mr. Norm was with Merle for 49 YEARS this past Febuary !!!!!!!!!!
What a great run.
Thank You for reading & I hope you get to see the show & enjoy it.

This is wonderful news and hats off to Mr. Toby Keith for stepping up and honoring these classic musicians. Thanks to Ron and Larry for spreading the news.
Here is an April 11, 2012 Country Music Hall of Fame interview with Norm and Don and (subbing for Fuzzy at the last minute): Mr. Merle Haggard.

Even at the height of his fame - Hag listed "Merle Haggard and the Strangers" on the front of his albums. I know this meant a whole lot to country musicians playing country music in the clubs and on show dates.

Hi Barry;
Thanks for the link!
Storm - Toby showed a whole lot of respect for Merle, whom I am sure was one of his heroes.
Robert - Yes I agree - all thru his career he did it -
Good for him !
Thanks for your replies..

The tribute was nice. Good that they saved it for the last few minutes to close the show. It was good to see Norm and the Strangers. Merle's son Ben doing the guitar work and sounded really good. Theresa in attendance and obviously still grieving but seemed to appreciate this tribute to Merle.
I thought Toby did a nice job, just sang the song medley with reverence and without a lot of chatter. I particularly enjoyed "Fightin' Side". |
