howdy folks. i am sure this has been discussed
dozens of times.
my profex II with newman presets now has a bad battery.
i and thinking of selling it as is and buying something else.
or getting it fixed.
how is the best way to fix the battery?
also, any suggestions on a good multi effects unit,
rackmount or otherwise if i sell the profex?

| I don't know if Ken Fox is still doing the conversion but he used to put a battery less mod in the ProFex. |

Remove the top panel of your Profex II and inspect the battery for leakage. If it appears to have leaked some time ago, then it would be questionable if it can be repaired at all.
But, if it appears to be clean, you may have caught it in time. If you wish to send your unit to Peavey for repair, we can install a new battery at $55.00 per hour labor plus part(approximately $20. and return freight. You may order the battery by calling toll free at 1-877-732-8391, ext.8106.

Still got the do it yourself battery-less mod available on my website.
One sure sign of battery leakage is low volume output or no output at all. Also if it seems to warm up slowing in volume level then there is leakage. The battery leaks onto resistors near the battery and caused the muting circuit to not work correctly. The muting circuit comes on for an instant to mute the outputs when it is first turned on, thus eliminating a thump or noise to the amp.
The battery is easily removed by merely wiggling it back and forth with both thumbs, breaking it off at the circuit board. Then any acid can be cleaned off with a Q-tip and alcohol. If damage is more severe then circuit board removal, more cleaning and repair will be necessary.
The battery-less memory replaces the old plug in memory chip and never needs a battery again to retain memory.
The unit will have to be re-initialized and settings restored via a memory card or another Profex via midi cable.

I have the battery-less mod and my input is recognizing signal but I am not getting any output - any ideas on what may be causing this? Mike, can I still send to you if my local guy, Steve Lamb, can't fix?
