One of my favorite instrumentals from the early 60s. Thanks for listening!

Very well executed. My wife, who is usually indifferent when it comes to steel on the web, called out from another room..."who is that? I like that one, it's relaxing and pretty."

Doug as always a great job on a great tune ! Back in the 60s I bought the album that contained this tune...I was a projectionist at the local theatre and we had a "short reel" of Acker Bilk playing a lot of tunes...kind of a pre music video if you will...the managers wife made us stop showing it because she felt the dancing girls were too suggestively dressed ! Smile

BTW, shes a little strange on the sea, but even "Stranger on the Shore"

Thanks Larry, I was 11 years old when this song was hit and I remember hearing it on my little transistor radio! Brings back a lot of memories. I was just becoming aware of pop music, guitar, hot rods, and girls... Acker played the song with extreme vibrato and feeling, and I tried to emulate that in my version... mostly single notes, as he played on the clarinet of course, with a fair amount of vibrato. The song was #1 in the USA and #2 in the UK in 1961. Those were the days when instrumentals were appreciated and became pop hits.

I was 10 years old when I heard that song in my Grandmothers kitchen on the radio. The melody never left me but for 40 years I never heard the tune again and couldn't remember the title. When I started playing acoustic lap steel 12 years ago it popped up on some station and I immediately got a copy of the sheet music and that was the first song I played in public on my Oahu. Great job.

The tune also popped up in the movie "Mr Holland's Opus". The clarinet scene... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL9k2pTFYrE&t=4m16s

Very nice, Doug. Thanks for posting.

I have owned a Fender Quad for 11 years, and it looks like our Quads could be twins! Smile

That's great to hear, C. E. I read here on the forum that only 84 Fender quads made. That seems like a very low number. Must be more than that.

The tunings I'm using... C6 for most of the song. B11 (on the bottom neck) for the bridge section. It doesn't sound like B11 though because I'm playing the upper strings only, which are the same as A6 tuning.
