I've read a lot of Sho-Bud posts but something has escaped me. Why do some round front S-10s have the Pro 1 decal and some square fronts like mine have no decal except for the Sho-Bud one? I'm pretty sure mine was never refinished as it is dinged, checked, yellowed and looks original. It is serial number 9143 built (inspected) by Duane Marrs, if that tells anything. There is a beautiful round front that has been rebuilt to modern in the for sale section that I'd love to own, and it has the Pro 1 decal. Just something I wonder about. Anyway, love those Buds!

The earlier ones didn't have the decal, and I suspect were not known at the time of issue as Pro-1's. Just model 6139.

I haven't seen a square front without a decal.

For a short while around 74 or so, Sho-Bud made two models of sgl 10 gtrs.
One was the ProI, and the other was the 6139. This was after the round front/rack & barrel 6139, and after the round front two hole pullers/barrels ProI.

Both models were square front, and had two hole pullers with nylon tuners. The only differences were the number of KL's offered as stock - 1 for the 6139, and 2 for the ProI - and the ProI had the decal, while the 6139 didn't.
That's it.
It didn't take too long before Sho-Bud figured out that the didn't really need to offer 2 sgl 10's, and the 6139 was discontinued.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are talking about (square front, no decal), but this one started life as a 3x1, Pro1?

Mine had two knee levers when I got it, but that was long after 1974. Someone could have added one and I added a third knee a while back. This makes sense. Thanks for the info Skip.

Pete, that's a nicely hot-rodded axe you got there. I'm trying to finish a rebuild of another old Pro 1 to end up with 5 pedals and four knees keeping the two-hole pulls and teardrop levers. It was a mess to begin with, so I decided it wouldn't hurt to drop a second pickup in it. Going to have it playing soon, I hope.

Anyway, thanks guys for the responses.

I had a round front 6139 with a Pro 1 Custom decal, two knee levers, nylon tuners. What did the "Custom" label signify?
